Default Flight Test Pilot (Safety)

This is a good one for an advanced flight test pilot who wants to use their previous safety knowledge and skill to insure safe flight testing takes place at Cessna in the jet division. I knew the former person who did this role, I am guessing he just retired.

Job Summary:

Responsibilities:
Plan and conduct analytical studies, tests, and evaluations of complex engineering problems specifically related to flight and ground test of new aircraft in coordination with a Project or Technical group. Solve complex engineering problems which affect design and performance of aircraft. Establish computations procedures for and methods of analyzing problems related to flight test. Participate in preliminary design studies. Prepare alternate proposals based on trade-off studies and findings and experiences of the flight test industry, both military and civilian. Conduct test flights and test flight data analysis, evaluate findings and prepare reports of flight characteristics and recommend corrective action to problems encountered. Safely execute test flights in all areas including stability, control, performance, systems operations, structural integrity, and human factors. Prepare technical reports for use by engineering and management personnel in short and long-range planning as related to flight test. Remain current on latest developments in technology and methodology through review of current technical literature. Apply present and new technology and techniques to projects as appropriate. Conduct basic and applied research to evaluate adaptability of materials and equipment to aircraft design and manufacture, and to expand the knowledge of flight test technology. Coordinate the review of concepts and proposals with other components, customers and vendors as required; serve as focal point for vendors and industry representatives to exchange current information concerning new flight test methods or aircraft projects - specifically related to flight test, pilot interface, and cockpit design. Build and lead flight test teams in execution of successful flight test projects in a safe and expedient manner, adhering to Company policies and procedures, within Company budget and schedule constraints. Participate in Company-wide flight test operations improvements, monitoring, and training. Incorporate best industry practices from top military flight test establishments as well as civilian organizations. Facilitate flight crew monitoring and training as required. Conduct Safety Review Boards. Review Test plans for effective risk mitigation of unique hazards. Recommend risk mitigation strategies for test programs.

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Aerospace, or Aeronautical Engineering or foreign equivalent.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Requires 5 years experience in Flight test engineering. Experience to include aircraft development and certification techniques and standard practices; 2000 flight hours as Pilot in Command; 2500 total flight hours; Test Pilot School completion or completion of the Safety in Flight Test course. At least 3 of the 5 years experience to include Conducting Safety Review Boards (SRB); Creating test plans and executing test programs. Requires Engineering Test Pilot Course.
Requires 10% domestic travel.
