I have noticed some tension between CAL and Express. Maybe I don't know/understand because I'm a CAL newbie. But, ALL of the pilots and FA's I've had contact with at EWR have been pretty cool!
You sat in the FA jumpseat? You're a pilot? Have the rules changed?
I've been at Express and CAL and I don't see any tension. There are very few guys on both sides who hate each other, but then again they hate everyone (including themselves).
In my 9 years at Express, I never denied any jumpseaters unless there were no more seats to give. Now I don't see jumpseaters, because I do international.
