What can the union do? It's not their fault that this pilot will be ineligible to acquire the FAA-required license to operate an airliner. I would not be surprised to see any of the above happen either.
I have always been amazed at the pilots that started at an airline at 20 or 21 and feel they have a huge head start on the game while never earning a degree, then getting upset 8-10 years later when he/she is still stuck working at the same regional. Just an observation I have made.
