Just went through the NG type rating a couple weeks ago. The NG type doesn't have a test on day one, but home studying still helped.
They do give you all of the info to pass the course. I came from an all single seat background, and no FMC knowledge, and I didn't have too much trouble. You are obviously familiar with crew co-ordination etc, so it will just be learning the new systems, and that is based on how quickly you can pick it up.
HPA is a great group of people, and they are in the business of getting you through.
