There are some MAJOR and costly AD's coming up on the 727. A biggie is on the main wing attach forgings #65-16214-3(4) front left(right) and 65-16213-3(4) rear left(right) due within 24 months of May 12, 2006. The older the 727 is(ie -100 models) the more likely they will need replacement. Why now and not next year you ask? The inspection may be included in a phase check, number of cycles or other reasons reached BEFORE the 24 month limit to comply comes due. Sooooo... without access to detailed records controlled by the operators this is really one of those "moving target" questions. Other AD's adding to the problem concern main landing gear mounts, fwd entry door cracks, main cargo door cracks, etc... I included forging numbers above to show that it is relatively easy to determine if your 727 will be JUNK(make into beer cans or donate to a school) after a specific date. IMHO the 727-100 will be history SOON and possibly some early -200s. FDX will retire the last -100 in a couple of months. Fred's aircraft acquisition group is the best in the business and light years ahead of the truck drivers in controlling this kind of problem. This is why UPS is having the 727-100 issue at this time.

This is a general explanation and all a dumb pylot neds 2 no.....

(I am a part time wrench bender what should probably stick to driving 'em according to "real" mechanics.) Sky
