They did make it back to Dubai though, but were apparently too high. Very unfortunate set of circumstances. Does anyone know the outcome with the shipper ?
Talked to a buddy about this last night who knew both guys. While recreating the situation in the sim, it was inconclusive if going to Qatar would have made a difference for the FO. The Captain would have died either way from smoke inhalation. Day or night the dude was 0/0 in the cockpit, but never gave up. Really sad confluence of circumstances with the PACK1 fault.
