As I've mentioned from time to time, Delta Air Lines, for whatever reason, combines their monthly traffic report to include: Delta mainline, ASA, Comair and their 'contract' carriers, which are Skywest and Chautauqua. Mesa will become a Delta contract carrier beginning this October. So, when you see that figure of over 10.5 million passengers carried in May, it is the total number of customers for all the mainline, express and contract carrier operations and not just Delta mainline.

Unlike some airlines we know, Continental Airlines announced this week that it has contributed $50 million to its defined benefit pension plan from proceeds received in the second closing under a secured term loan facility. Continental CEO Larry Kellner said, "Our employee pension plan continues to be a high priority. We are working hard to fulfill our pension obligations and keep our promises to our employees."
Wow! And just think, three weeks ago, Continental Airlines won three major awards, including "Airline of the Year," in the 2005 OAG Airline of the Year Awards. Continental was named "Airline of the Year," "Best Airline Based in North America," and, for the third year in a row, "Best Executive/Business Class."
How about that? It looks like if you take care of your customers and your employees, the rest sort of falls into place, doesn't it? Congratulations to Continental.
