If they somehow get past the governments, the companies need to bury them in capacity and fare wars and yes, we very much can afford to do so, quite easily, while they are young and growing. Let every single flight they add be a devistating loss to their ponzi scheme endless growth bottom line until their investors cash out at huge losses and their employees hit the streets because that's what they are trying to do to all of us. We have to abandon the MBA insanity of "route by route profitability" on a short term basis and just bleed those dirt bags out.
