Default Supplemental Disability Policy

Wanted to get this out for those who may need it in the future or want it for peace of mind. One of our pilots here at UPS had been out on disability for over two years and he is now involved with the insurance world. He developed a supplemental disability policy that lays on top of our current LTD (long term disability) group plan with the union. There is no offset for the benefits and it is a guaranteed issue, which means NO medical exam or medical questionnaire. Because it's a multi-life policy the premiums are reduced by 30% off standard rates. Premiums are based on age and selected benefit.

The UPS pilot supplemental policy is $30,000 per year for Captains and $18,000 per year for F/O’s. Quite a few guys here signed up.

It's administered by Peterson International and underwritten by Lloyd's of London.

I was told he just introduced a similar policy for American, Delta, FedEx, Southwest and United. I checked out the link and it looks like there are more options with flexible premiums than the one for UPS pilots:
