Not to mention, they have a retirement match on top of their salary that pays 16% of their gross into a retirement account. It is my understanding that Qatar Airways barely even has any retirement program to speak of, if they even have one at all. Lets stay with reality. I'm sure the US legacies are far from perfect, but lets not bend facts about Qatar and their salary package being superior to any major in the US, let alone a legacy..(other than the fact it's tax free)
Senior U.S legacy Captains have been earning $250,000 as top pay for only the past 2-3 years...UAL top pay is $263 an hour for a 777/747 CA.. $263 an hour with 75 hour per month guarantee equates to $19725 per month...Which is an annual salary of $236,700...Pretax that is....Add another $7,000 per diem for the year..Now we are at $243,700 and add $38,992 for the 16% Retirement B Fund...So a top UAL Captain is earning $282,692..Now take out 38% in tax which you will pay sooner or later and you are left with $175,269 net.....That is pretty close to what a Qatar First Officer makes..Qatar FO's make an all inclusive package of $156,000 per year and 3 weeks salary per year towards retirement which is another $10,000... that takes the total FO package at $166,000 per year tax free...Also, we have 18,000 pilot applications on file so I don't think they are hurting for qualified pilots...
