The point of this whole post was more along the theme of trying the help another pilot out and not being a jerk about it if that person can't.
Which is exactly what happened. You took a different flight that got you to work on time and in doing so, you helped her go to an event that was important to her.
Being able to see friends on the other side of the country is one of the few perks left in this career. This industry would be pretty miserable if the jumpseat could only be used for work.
