Ain't that the truth. One of my best friends left the Air Force as a Colonel and got snapped up to be a mid/high-level manager at one of their large fulfillment centers in No. Cal. He left after 2 years. He said the turnover is phenomenal. It's a high stress, dog-eat-dog environment where employees are encouraged to "tattle" on each other. Not about theft or anything like that, but "Johnny's not working hard enough" type stuff. And the cash compensation was good, but not great. They get you to stay by offering stock in a graduated system to always keep that carrot dangling in front of you. My buddy had enough and moved on to greener pastures.

Also, he told me one of Amazon's dirty little secrets is that they are a very data-driven company, and as such, they know exactly how much of each item from each of their fulfillment customers gets sold and "what's hot." Then they come in and start selling that item themselves, poaching their online fulfillment customer's best products, since that customer has already taken all the risk in doing the "market research" for them. Pretty sneaky.
