On the flip side, I own several "poor man's watches" that are still mechanical and bomb-proof. The Seiko SKX007 is one of the best watches ever made IMO and can be found for $150.
I loved my SKX007, but I replaced it with a Deep Blue NATO Diver 300 because of the better movement with hand winding, and the sapphire crystal.
