The benefit of a line vs reserve is a set schedule. You show up at your show time, do your flying then go home when your trip(s) are complete.
Commute all depends on where you live, what base your commuting to, and what time your trip starts.
You can sign your family up for benefits. This also depends on which system you're in. And will cost you regardless.
