I'm calling BS on the mandatory extra FAA training. I've been on the MD-11 for most of the past 23 years. I've seen various versions of upset recovery training, bounced landing training & International training
The MD-11 landing characteristics are unique. I'd say it's more difficult to land consistently (tougher than the DC-10, 747 or 727). Quite frankly I think the MD-11 lands more like a 727-200 than a DC-10.
All-in-all it's a great airplane. I enjoyed flying it very much. Sadly the greater efficiency of the 777 will replace the MD-11's one day.
