First of all - it is not a "penalty." Someone in each class has to be junior. Second, in an airline with 14,000 + Pilots the perceived "penalty" is mostly insignificant. Yes it may affect something at sometime but it also may never come into play.
And remember - the bottom guy is senior to everyone in the class the next week.

Wrong choice of words, my point is just that the seniority won’t always be “made even” over time because an older guy retires first. I think a random system, much like they have, is the way to go. Or hottest wife, if I can count my first since she’s the only one I have.
