Simple. They don't like us and they want fewer of us around. That goes for FA's, CSR's, bag-smashers and mechanics too. Humans are expensive. Unless of course, they're code share humans.
They expect to beat us into submission (or more likely, mediate us into submission) on scope. What we gave them during bankruptcy wasn't enough. What they got the judge to take from us wasn't enough. Transferring our pension to the PBGC wasn't enough.
They want to be able to move the pieces anywhere they want, anytime they want
using the pilots they want and definitely not with those they don't. That would be us.
They could buy those planes today.
