"United is a far more seasonal airline than American, Delta, and even Southwest Airlines Co. in terms of how much flying it does in August, the peak, versus January, the slowest month. Given the same employees, gates and airplanes on the books all year, this low-season schedule posture is a drag on costs. Increasing “asset efficiency” through greater employee productivity, more daily flying time and boosting gate use is key, Chief Financial Officer Andrew Levy said."

The concept of "asset efficiency" and being a "more seasonal" airline is attributable to our lack of a southeastern hub....
We can make Denver, Houston and Chicago more efficient but we won't be asset efficient until we match the productivity of American and Delta in January and the first quarter in general.

Also, Continental mastered the art of shrinking to profitability and it is no surprise that Smisek took United that direction to line his pockets...Thanks again Jeff...
