I think there were a lot of good things that came out of this negotiation. The union themselves said they weren't too thrilled about the right seat captain process. Also, it still has to be FAA approved. I wonder how long that will take. In addition, once we have 725 pilots on the seniority list excluding management pilots and military leave pilots, it sounds like it'll go away (at least for those of us that don't want it, and I'm one).
I do appreciate the "draw down" on ready reserve. I think the last couple months where we've had pretty much no one available to even sit airport ready has proven that it wouldn't be the end of the world to get rid of it. It'll certainly make the crew rooms more empty for me to use on those 4 hour sits!
I also think that this email shows that hopefully the union and management can work together. I know that in my conversations with the union, they've talked about the hostile relationship they've had as of late rather than being able to work with management when they both have common goals (such as properly staffing the airline and ensuring that Compass stays in business). Hopefully (as the union claims) we have "turned to a new chapter" and are able to better resolve some grievances. I'm personally holding my breath and will say that the proof will be in the pudding with how the remaining grievances are resolved.
