Colonel with a capital "C", huh? And a Vice Wing Commander? Wow. No wonder you got interviews with both airlines. Sir.
A friend of mine (only a Lt Col, what a loser), just left Delta after a year to come over to FedEx. There was also a guy in my indoc class who had just finished up IOE at Delta and left to go to Fedex indoc. Maybe Fedex was more flexible with their dates.
Snarkiness aside, are new hires leaving Fedex to go anywhere else? I know I've heard that there were certain instances of individuals getting the job and not showing up to indoc because they took jobs with other airlines. I just don't personally know of anyone who's left Fedex to go anywhere else.
