I wouldn’t discourage applying, especially if you have an “in”. You just never know what the chief pilot might consider. He would be at a disadvantage negotiating a pay package, but trade a contract for the type rating and getting current could be a deal. I tried to create “developmental” positions but got shot down when pilots were easily available, now it might fly.
