For us (b6) they have to release to self dh (Jumpseat). Only way they can’t do it is if they are already assigning you to fly that flight the next day.
And to the other part of the question about taking advantage of the Jumpseat system. Of course you aren’t. Only time it comes up about positive space and Jumpseat is if you are kicking someone off the Jumpseat on the flight you are originally scheduled to positive space home on just to Jumpseat.
