That market niche is squeezed between stretch 737/A321 on the low end, and 787/A350 on the high end. There might be a case for longer range and a few more seats than stretch NBs. Maybe. The 75 didn't have to compete with stretch guppy...
If I remember correctly, the NMA is also not supposed to be a narrow body but two aisles. I think the 75 out grew a lot of gates length wise.
