This really threw my friend. He was used to my simulator which flies closer to a level C or D sim then to a Redbird. They didn’t use the motion because instructors thought simulator was crap. My friend got a day or two behind because he tried to really fly the sim like an actual airplane, by using the yoke for pitch. Instructors told him to stop using yoke and just use pitch trim for pitch control.

You really need to be familiar with a G1000 prior to starting training. After four or five simulator sessions if your released to flight training, you go to your base for aircraft flight training. If your not ready for the airplane they will give you a extra sim session or two. But if after your extra sims your still not ready to move up they will send you home as they don’t want to spend money on extra airplane flight training. They do send home pilots prior to flight training if your not ready to move to the airplane.

My friend did his flight training either early in the morning or late at night. Instructor was happy my friend was very proficient in the G1000. Made the comment “we don’t want to waste flight training teaching the G1000, you should know it”. After four or five training flights you get a check ride in aircraft and then IOE.

My friend likes the pilots and the company. Obviously not happy with FO Pay and trying to live in Hawaii. Great place to build time. Also Southern Airways Express bought Mokulele and they will operate separately but intend to merge 135 certificates. Not sure if Southern will control all hiring for both carriers.

I have a few pilots I’ve worked with at Southern Airways Express. They use a Level C Full Flight Simulator at Flight Safety for initial and a Level C at Fly Right for upgrade training. They had much better training experiences then my friend at Mokulele.
