-don't take check rides before your ready. More specifically, don't go to flight schools that make you follow an arbitrary time frame they cooked up in sales meeting.
-don't go to regional airlines that have not implemented AQP in initial training.

Noobs, print and frame this, and hang it on your wall. Understand what the airlines want to see... they hold all the cards, and the job they offer will make you a multi-millionaire.
AQP is real nice, but if it's a good training dept I would not commute for an AQP program if you can take a PC and live in base.
