Fundamental problem right now is the company actually makes money. 20% of all salaried positions could be cut, but who's gonna pitch that unless AA is in the red.
They could put IFE on MCE and see if it sells. If the back of the plane, with no IFE and less seat pitch sells out first, what are they suppose to do other than be on time.
Seems like an entire culture that ALL problems are at the executive level, and NONE fall on front line employees.

Jeff trimmed 2B a year after United merger, AA hasn't trimmed jack.

Low oil and high demand has allowed them to punt on tough choices. AA and USAir are doing better than they have ever done in the past, just under by comparison.

GE froze salaried employee pension benefits, FedEx has been offering early buyouts for salaried positions, tough pill to swallow to have to trim the fat from "your team" who have, "made all this possible".
