The Lion Air CA was at least smart enough to know how to keep it in the air. Problem was once he handed the control to the FO so he could look into the QRH. The FO was incompetent with numerous failures and training issues and all he knew was to pull back. Ethiopian was completely inexcusable as by then they already knew about MCAS and its ability to run rampant. The CA here kept asking for the AP on. Even at the end after re-engaging the cutout switches, the CA released back pressure to try to engage the AP. The 350 hr FO didn’t help.
