I'm looking to do the same thing. I have 285 hours TT, Commercial SEL and MEL. I'm based out of KCRQ, and rent a C-150 for $105 an hour ($52.50 split). It has a Garmin 650 for IFR as well. How much is it for the 172 you're talking about, and how many hours are you looking at getting each weekend?
This month, I am planning KSNA -> KGYR -> KPGA -> KTUS -> KNYL -> KSNA.
And other shorter X-Countries.
Trying to get at least 20 a month if possible 30 hours each month.
After I get 500 TT start sending out resume and keep building hours.
