If someone calls in sick, and flying opens up, it’s usually inside of 12 hours, so a short call person gets it. Weather causes crew timeouts or delays, the reservists get used. Another example of short calls getting flying before long call. Ideally long call should get it first, but with the lack of flying recently it’s been better to pick short call if you want to fly more. Also crew scheduling has been upgrading 4,5, and 6 day buckets on long call to short call because it’s a free short call and they use them as backups knowing they will unlikely get called. Skirting the contract we have also seen crew scheduling upgrade a long call to short call then right to airport ready. Something that shouldn’t happen but the Union bends over and let’s it happen. Airport ready should be assigned to the most junior pilots, not to the guys who hold seniority to have long call. It’s all a game and the company routinely uses pilots outside of the scope of the contract. Another reason not to budge.
Its not seniority in the buckets. Call me first call me last enters into it.
