Humans are nowhere near as rational as you'd like to think; we decide what to believe/buy/invest time in first, then scour the sewer that is the internet to justify our "rational thoughts" second.
Genocide is depressingly common, and insanely well documented. The "Never Again!" slogan sounds nice, but ......
Red Famine: Stalin's War on Ukraine - Anne Applebaum
Mao's Great Famine: The History of China's Most Devastating Catastrophe -Frank Dikotter, a truly fascinating fellow
Shake Hands with the Devil: The Failure of Humanity in Rwanda-Romeo Dallaire, (UN force commander in Rwanda powerless to stop it)
Three genocides within living memory, or at most one generation removed. I doubt one in a hundred random people in the US would know what you were talking about. "Deniers", in this context, are just willfully ignorant; so wrapped up in cognitive dissonance they can't see the forest for the trees.
Books help.
