I really liked the Sitchen books...a series of 6? books, starting "The 12th Planet". He started as a Torah and Biblical scholar (raised Jewish), and speaks/reads multiple languages. What he did is interpreted every Sumerian source he could find. He sourced books written starting in the 1800s in German, French and English, about the Sumerians. Then, he went to museums around the world and read as many Sumerian clay tablets as he could find. The results are in the books...
