The CCP is always in a somewhat precarious position... they are tolerated by the people, but the government doesn't have as much power as a place like the DPRK. CCP hung their hat on economics more than rigid control, so they can't just arbitrarily close entire economic sectors. They would be more inclined to regulate the wet markets, or try to, or at least give the appearance of doing that.
I still would not want to be a citizen in either country.
