The industry always oscillates between looking for space shuttle qualified personnel and hiring people with a pulse. It is just the way it is!!
4-12 months from now they will begging anyone legally capable of filling a seat in a sim. Right now they are cherry picking and reducing costs by a fraction because they can.
Why would an airline that is far behind minority hiring, put a new woman in charge of hiring? Because they want more women and minorities. The ATP/CTP course is simply another cost to them like sims, bias training, captain charm school and CRM class.
