A320s were mentioned over a decade ago in Capt course as 757 replacement by a suit that will go un-named. But those things are just a little newer than the 757 they are replacing. There is no replacement for the MD which is why we are starting to see multiple legs into and out of memphis. Anybody been swept on an outbound leg from MEM after a city loses an MD and gains a 767....i have.
New A320/321 with the NEO engines are obviously far newer and more fuel efficient than the 75's.
Pratt version 20% more efficient than the CEO
LEAP version 16% more efficient than the CEO
I'm just not sure how the payloads match up.
