E195s were the permanent fixture for routes 2 hours and less (didn’t want E190s at all), then they got E190s at such a dirt cheap rate they couldn’t turn them down, so they got both. But the whole plan was to have 195s for low utilization short flights and 220s for high utilization longer flights.
The original fleet plan was for a single aircraft type using A220’s. When the E190/195’s were later announced they were placeholders to be quickly replaced by A220’s. Keeping them is the third iteration of the fleet plan.
