Management has been stockpiling pilots for years. Several years ago it was primarily ERJ FOs. They're afraid that if they don't hire you, someone else will. Sitting around waiting on IOE while getting paid or on reserve and not flying doesn't make much difference to them.
Are they also afraid of new hires leaving to other carriers during the wait? Genuine question. It just seems like it go either way. If anything, it’s more detrimental to the company to lose an employee they invested in vs miss the opportunity to hire one
