What happens if in a situation like this one the pilot flying is having trouble and the pilot monitoring says “I have control” or “my airplane” but the other pilot refuses to relinquish control? I know that the captain has ultimate authority, but is there ever a situation where a first officer can demand to take control because the captain is clearly not taking the proper corrective action and the first officer can assume authority and override the captain?
The FO is expected to take over if the CA is not functioning properly. If the CA doesn't cooperate, well that's why you get paid the big bucks.
But such a situation would be exceptionally rare, at least in low power-distance cultures.
