Definately. In this day and age of stacks of resumes and qualified applicants, many companys only interview those people who have internal recommendations from current employees. Having somebody from within walk in your resume (or otherwise recommend you) is definately a huge advantage. At the very least many companies (almost all) keep separate stacks of resumes. Those with internal recommendations and those without. Everything else being equal, who do you think they will interview?
