I have heard rumblings over the years from gatekeeper and ERC members that granting asap relief for sterile violations is a point of contention.

I kind of get that, it's one thing to forget yourself and say "that's a nice sunrise". It's another to have a sustained non-sterile conversation while taxiing... that's starting to seem intentional. On the descent it might be plausible that you didn't notice through 10 and kept chatting for a while.
