Quoting your post just to have an anchor point. Not all of this is directed towards you. This thread is lots of assumptions and not really any good information.
SWAPA leadership in days past decided to buy the empire central building. What they didn't do was maintain the building or sell it when it was wise. Now they are sitting on a commercial building in bad need of maintenance in a run down and crime ridden neighborhood. The real estate market sucks, especially for office buildings. Their proposal is to move the operation to a leased office in las colinas and sell the building on empire central. Sure, they could stay in the building and put more money into it, but what is the end game? At this point, keeping it would be throwing good money away. Total sunk cost fallacy. Time to move on.
I also disagree with dues on the bonus, but we aren't getting that back. They clearly need to be responsible in the budget. The membership has grown, the union provides valuable services, but some line items are pretty questionable. The budget will pass. It always passes. If you have grievances with it, the best way to address it is to vote no and to call the second VP directly. That is his job and he takes it very seriously.
Not voting because you are upset about Covid or whatever happened in the past is childish and counterproductive. Vote or quit complaining.
The union works for you. The best way to change it is to either vote your interests or run for office. I don't agree with the way things are run all the time, and I let my voice be heard. Just taking your toys and going home accomplishes nothing.
