But yes, Americans are definitely soft compared to populations who have grown up under dictatorships and endured wars. We have been lucky. We freak out at the slightest inconvenience now and, last I checked, we are still a democracy, so popular opinion matters. Iran is a theocratic dictatorship so popular opinion matters far less over there (until they revolt, which isn't going to be anytime soon).
I saw a snippet from Colbert's show last night interviewing a Journalist in Iraq that they have been able to communicate with a few people inside Tehran even considering the complete internet blackout. It has been made very clear that anyone taking to the streets and celebrating with be shot. Also, there were originally videos that surfaced of Iranians celebrating on the initial strikes and the new (same as the old) regime informed that apartment block that if there are any more reports of that, they will raid the entire block.
So revolt right about now looks incredibly unlikely.
