To start with, the training contract specifically states that it commences when the pilot is signed off at the end of LOE. That means you get the type rating but there is no effective contract until the end of OE. That is the way THE COMPANY wrote the contract. That is the way they want it. I am a firm believer that both parties should live with the contract that they sign. But the company should have no complaints if someone leaves before completing OE.

If someone goes to Compass just to get the type rating and leave before doing LOE, that would seem disingenuous to me. I think it is clearly understood by all that if you take the job, you do it because you want the job. But if another job comes along that you want more before you have completed training, there is no requirement to pass it up and stay at CP.

I keep hearing people say "the training contracts are not enforceable". To that I say, "so what?" What does that have to do with it? If you sign your name to a training contract, aren't you obligated to live by your word? Are you so dishonest that your WORD (not to mention signature) is worth nothing?

But when a company chooses to employ a written contract instead of gentleman's verbal agreement, then one need not feel guilty about living by the letter of the contract even if it means quitting after receiving the type rating but before the end of LOE.
