While I agree with the basics of what you're saying, my point that all regionals/regional pilots are guilty of bringing down airline pilot QOL is still valid. None of us should be flying the equipment we're flying for such horrible wages, schedules, etc. Every regional pilot who argues so strongly for looking out for the pilot community as a whole is a complete hyporcite. If you refused to fly a jet for substandard wages, the flying would go back to the majors and wages would go up, thus benefiting all of your fellow pilots. Instead everybody decides that picking on GoJet pilots is the best way to better the industry.
In psychology,
hypocritical behavior is closely related to the fundamental attribution error: individuals are more likely to explain their own actions by their environment, yet they attribute the actions of others to 'innate characteristics', thus leading towards judging others while justifying ones' own actions.
Scapegoating is the act of holding a person, group of people, or thing responsible for a multitude of problems.
"Scapegoating is an effective if temporary means of achieving group solidarity, when it cannot be achieved in a more constructive way. It is a turning inward, a diversion of energy away from serving nebulous external purposes toward the deliciously clear, specific goal of ruining a disliked co-worker's life. ... Mobbing can be understood as the stressor to beat all stressors. It is an impassioned, collective campaign by co-workers to exclude, punish, and humiliate a targeted worker. Initiated most often by a person in a position of power or influence, mobbing is a desperate urge to crush and eliminate the target. The urge travels through the workplace like a virus, infecting one person after another. The target comes to be viewed as absolutely abhorrent, with no redeeming qualities, outside the circle of acceptance and respectability, deserving only of contempt. As the campaign proceeds, a steadily larger range of hostile ploys and communications comes to be seen as legitimate."
Sure, some regionals are better than others. But I still contend that there is no good regional...otherwise everybody's goal wouldn't be to get in, do their time, and get the hell out.
Also, if you're so worried about furloughed TSA pilots getting their jobs back, why do you care if they do it with GoJet or TSA? If they go to GoJet, they'll be making more money than they were before and basically everything else they had in their TSA contract would be equivalent. Eventually, if TSA calls them back, they leave GJ and pick up where they left off at TSA. They built hours, made money, got experience, and cost TSH thousands of dollars in training money along the way. If you ask me, you should be recommending TSA furloughees go to GJ. But then again, we don't want to introduce any kind of reality or logic into this whole situation.
