They did it because US Air has better brand recognition on the east coast, and in the lucrative European market, Cactus had no brand recognition whatsoever. Purely a marketing decision.\
What he said is true ...
And then on to some of the irregularities:
Headquarters moved to the AWA facility in PHX.
Most accounting documents state that AWA was the acquiring carrier for financial purposes ... ( It would be hard to comprehend how USAir in bankruptcy could acquire anything, so that makes sense ...)
AWA now does business as (dba) USAirways ... and actually became a wholly owned subsidary of a holding company that owns BOTH airlines ...
Training/checking will still occur east & west
The USAir certificate will be the surviving certificate and managed out of the PIT FSDO I believe ...
AND BEST OF ALL ... Both pilot groups are engaged in a learning process that involves merging all manuals and philosophies to insure that absolutely no one knows what they are supposed to be doing for the next few months ...
MAY THE FORCE BE WITH US ALL !!!
