I don't think anyone is really recession-proof. Although people still get sick during recessions, unfortunately sick people don't exude cash. Healthcare providers only make money when they get paid, and as unemployment increases so will the uninsured, making healthcare providers more and more dependant on medicaid and programs to fund care for the indigent... just as cash-strapped state and local governments are looking to make cuts to such programs.
