History repeats itself cliche applies here. The article link below is part of the reason air crews go through security today, even though it was a local ground employee bypass of screening, that was the weak link. 99.9 percent of ground employees are honest and hard working, but ......

Ironically the employee group that was responsible for this recent incident was part of the same weak link that took down a former PSA aircraft, by bypassing security. How soon we forget.

"Using his USAir credentials, Burke, armed with a loaded .44 Magnum revolver[4] that he had borrowed from a co-worker, was able to bypass the security checkpoint at Los Angeles International Airport."

There were also many incidents of cockpit intrusions near the then weak flight deck door, before 911. The cost of enforcing the doors was a primary reason the FAA and management did not act.

Deja vu.
