You know the base you will have before they interview you if you list a specific base as where you are willing to live on the domicile preference form you send in with the application packet. If you are willing to live anywhere, they will probably let you know before you even interview or at the latest they will let you know by the time of the job offer (usually the day after you go from from the interview). Some people get a choice for which airplane they will get and some don't. I didn't. I don't know why some do and some don't for sure, but probably it goes by giving choices to the first people called with job offers and then the last people called get whatever slots are left that need to be filled. Right now we are getting more XLSs than any other airplane so this year they are putting about 1/3 of the newhires into the Excel/ XLS. They haven't been putting anyone into the Ultra or Hawker 400 lately, but things change all the time. I think we are getting some more 400s now so they will probably be putting more into again soon. If I had a choice knowing what I know now I would have chosen the Excel since it pays better than all the others for newhires and I need the money (FOs get an extra $225 a month since they fly the Excel and XLS and they require some small differences training.) If I didn't need the extra cash I would have chosen the Falcon since they have a flight attendant to make the FOs life a lot easier. The X is pretty cool, but they work at least as hard as the Excels and they don't get any extra pay (except overtime since they fly so many long days).
