On a related note, I remember a guy I interviewed who talked about taking a job for peanuts that was formerly reserved captains, who were fittingly paid a captain's salary at company X. Of course company X thought any monkey with the certificate could do job Y and exhange their talent pool with a talent-less pool.

I agree. I won't recomend or hire any pilot, no matter how good he is(even if it was Bob Hoover himself) for a job. I am not saying not to pay for a job, but if you do myself and most of the guys I know don't want anything to do with that caliber of (lack of) professional pilot.
