The heavier the airplane, the less the performance. Stall speed will be higher; rate of climb, slower. Think of jogging up a hill pulling a wagon with some bricks in it; now add more bricks. Your trip up that hill will be a lot slower.

A number of other factors besides weight affect performance: temperature, altitude, humidity to name a few. Just hit the books and keep asking questions. There's no such thing as a stupid question, just stupid answers.
