There are guys here on track to make 85k+ their first year and upgrade at 1,000 121. Is going somewhere with only 50 seat jets a gamble? Sure. Are current new hires going to make that much? Probably not.

But I’ll make more money, drive to work, and upgrade faster than most of my 70/76 seat friends.

Why not? It's over 12.5 GTOW, isn't it? Get your 1000TPIC and move on.

If you can live in base and work for Air Whisky, why not? It's a rung in the ladder, not a career.

Default Take home pay

I'll take a stab at giving a straight answer. Yes, the variables are many. It depends on how many tax exemptions you want, what level of benefits you sign up for, etc. The AW payroll is bimonthly. The first and 15th of each month. During each paycheck you are paid half of your "base" salary. Which is half of the 75 hour minimum guarantee. The check on the 1st of the month is only the half month. I have 4 exemptions and got the best health insurance, my take home check after taxes and deductions has been around $900 for that first payroll. On the 15th paycheck, they again pay half of the base then add all of the extra pay you earned from the month before (per diem, extra time above minimum, etc.). My average 15th check has been about $2,600 take home plus or minus. I've been working the 85-90 hour lines and tried to pick up 2-4 days of open flying every month, so my number might be above average. But, I also pay more for better benefits.

The others are correct that there are a lot of variables. During the first few months of training, it was monthly minimum every check. If you sit on reserve and don't fly much, you could be looking at as little as $2,000 a month take home. If you have to commute to base from anywhere, crashpads, hotels, food, and other expenses will eat hard into what little you are bringing home. The bonus offer helps, but you have to be disciplined enough to use it wisely. If you are young, single, and don't need the expensive insurances you can increase these amounts by several hundred dollars a month.

For family Health ins, roughly $280 is taken out of each paycheck, or $560 a month. That seems high. My last employer was $250 a month, total, for same family coverage!!
Lots of chatter about how good the health insurance is at AirWhisky...may be good for low deductibles, but man, we sure 'pay' for it.

Yes, my last employer had better coverage for less money also. It was similar at about $250 per month. But ... this is one of the best in this industry from my research. Maybe not saying as much as you would like, but when you hunt around to other regional carriers no one is offering much to begin with.

Hard to believe that people go to carriers with 70+ seats where it’s a constant scope clause shell game as to who gets to fly them.

Take a swing by the gojet and Mesa forums, I bet a few of those guys would be happy to have 50 seaters on property right now.

Where on earth are you getting better insurance than $50 hospital visits and $25 doctor’s appointments?

Well that’s a fine and dandy. But one class configurations are not the trend. And what if you can’t get out? That’s my point. Have a back up plan.

Retirements aside, not everyone gets to where they want to be. You may not even have the opportunity.

I agree with Canwegettheleft on this. UA is scoped out on 70 and 76 seat ac. Negotiation committee at mainline will not even consider (nor should they) any scope relief. So whipsaw for the current amount of 70-76 ac will continue. 50 seaters are not scoped out. UA is giving 50 seat flying to anyone of their FFD airlines who can staff it.

If you are working for any FFD UAX carrier, having all or at least some 50 seaters is good and is the only true growth that isn’t moving flying around.

Even if UA buys the E2 or the 220 and opens up more 76 seaters - that would not happen soon.

All that said, Delta’s approach to 50 seaters is more in line with your point so I would agree with you there however that is not applicable to us.

Exactly. Will we get more 50 seat flying? Maybe, maybe not. But it can occur organically under united’s current economic situation. Any 70/76 seat flying has to be shuffled around and is intrinsically unstable.
